Surfing New Zealand

A few weeks before we left, I joined an organization called "couch surfing".
It is an international network of travellers who host and are hosted in homes around the world.
The day before we left, I received an email from a couple in Christchurch...if we were still in need of a place to stay, they would be more than happy to host...and what were our flight details, they would pick us up from the airport.
WHAT?!?
That alone seemed like over the top generocity from people we had never met. We had no idea what we were in for...

Rich picked us up from the airport and took us back to his family's lovely home. We had our own room with a double bed, fresh towels, and windows overlooking the back yard...which just happend to double as a vegetable garden!
We met Col, Rich's wife, and Tom their son and then headed out on a grand tour of Christchurch and surrounding area.
We returned and were treated to a fantastic home cooked dinner composed of fresh veggies from the garden and stuffed chicken breasts on the back patio.
I could go on for days about how unbelievable our 4 day stay has been her
e. Rich and Col have been so incredibly generous, warm and trusting. They have welcomed, fed and trusted us as if we were long lost family returing home. They have taken us out for dinner, pints, city tours and 75km bike rides with lattes on top. They even let me pick cherry tomatos and cucmbers from the garden!
We cannot believe our luck in meeting these people...we had heard about New Zealanders hospitality, but this was truly over the top.
I highly recommend looking into couch surfing if you are going travelling...not only have we had an incredible stay, but we have made some lasting friends.
